Disclaimer & Certification Information
The training and certification programs offered by American Vital Institute™ (AVI™) are designed to align with the most current, evidence-based 2025 resuscitation and emergency care guidelines, including those published by:
- The American Heart Association® (AHA®) and its Emergency Cardiovascular Care (ECC) programs
- The International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR)
- The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), where applicable
AVI's courses focus on cognitive education and are developed using our professional interpretation of these widely recognized guidelines and occupational safety standards, as they relate to online learning and general emergency response education.
Nature of AVI Certification
Completion of an AVI course and issuance of a certificate reflects the learner's successful completion of AVI's educational curriculum and assessment requirements. Certification is issued solely by American Vital Institute™ and represents an AVI certification, not certification issued directly by any other organization.
American Vital Institute™ is an independent training provider. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, authorized by, sponsored by, or officially connected to the American Heart Association®, the American Red Cross®, or any other third-party training organization. All referenced names, logos, trademarks, and service marks remain the property of their respective owners and are used solely for informational and comparative purposes.
Online Training and Acceptance
Online CPR/AED, First Aid, and related training is widely recognized as a valid form of cognitive education. However, some employers, regulatory agencies, licensing boards, healthcare facilities, or "special industries" may require in-person or hands-on skills training, or may mandate training from a specific provider.
American Vital Institute™ does not guarantee that its certifications will be accepted in all situations. Learners are solely responsible for confirming acceptance requirements with their employer, school, or licensing authority prior to enrollment.
Limitations of Cognitive-Only Training
AVI's courses emphasize the theoretical and evidence-based foundations of life-saving interventions, as reflected in current guidelines. While this knowledge is essential, hands-on practice and instructor-led evaluation may be necessary to develop and maintain physical skill proficiency.
Certification through AVI does not guarantee competence, licensure, or authorization to perform CPR, AED use, First Aid, Basic Life Support, or any medical or emergency procedure.
Responsibility and Use of Training
Learners acknowledge that:
- Emergency response outcomes can vary even when guidelines are followed correctly
- Performing CPR or emergency care always involves inherent risk
- AVI is not responsible for actions taken by individuals following course completion
AVI encourages prompt bystander intervention when appropriate, recognizing that emergency response decisions must be made based on real-world conditions, personal judgment, and applicable laws and policies.
Ongoing Updates and Accuracy
The science of resuscitation and emergency care evolves continuously. American Vital Institute™ is committed to periodically reviewing and updating course content to reflect changes in recognized guidelines. However, learners are encouraged to independently consult official publications from AHA®/ECC, ILCOR, OSHA, and relevant authorities for the most current recommendations.
All course content is provided for general educational purposes only. AVI makes no representations or warranties, express or implied, regarding the completeness, accuracy, reliability, or suitability of the information for any specific purpose or situation.
Mission Statement
American Vital Institute™ is dedicated to providing high-quality, accessible, and convenient life-saving education that empowers individuals to respond confidently and responsibly in emergency situations.
